KARACHI: 2025 has seen a sharp rise in traffic accidents in Karachi, with 108 fatalities—72 in the city and 24 in the suburbs—as well as an increase in wrecks involving dumper trucks.
Police said an oil tanker crashed into them from behind after a freight train struck a trailer close to Mai Kolachi.
The driver of the oil tanker was trapped inside after the crash shattered the front section of the vessel. To rescue the driver from the wreckage, rescue crews were sent to the spot. Rescue officials were able to extricate the trapped driver after a lot of work.
Rescue crews, police, and rangers were on the scene, handling the issue. Authorities verified that the track where the accident happened did not have a railway crossing.
