SASKATOON: The deaths of at least 11 people at a Filipino community festival in Vancouver on Sunday marked the tragic conclusion of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s campaigns.
In preparation for Monday’s election, which has mostly focused on US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and threats to annex Canada, Carney and Poilievre have been campaigning to voters for five weeks, with Sunday marking the end of their campaign.
Both candidates expressed their condolences, but it was unclear whether the mass fatality incident in Vancouver would affect the race in any way. A 30-year-old Vancouver male who was “known” to the police was taken into custody, according to the police.
