For the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has alluded to the possibility of hiring former left-arm quick Mohammad Amir.
During a recent X Spaces session with fans, Shaheen addressed questions about whether or not the deadly duo will lead the country’s pace attack once more.
The captain of the Twenty20 team was asked by several supporters if he would consider bowling with Amir in the next T20 World Cup in 2024. In response, Shaheen stated that he will question Amir about his interest in rejoining the team.
“If Muhammad Amir is willing to return to Pakistan once more, I will speak with him about it. I went bowling with Amir after nearly five years apart.
Bowling with him was a terrific experience, and our relationship worked well,” Afridi said in an online conversation with his followers.
After accusing bowling coach Waqar Younis and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq of injustice and favoritism in 2020, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket.
When Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah was hurt just before the ICC World Cup 2023 got underway, supporters urged Amir to come out of retirement on social media. However, the left-armer declined, stating he had “moved on” from playing international cricket.
“I have moved on as of right now. In a previous news conference, Amir stated, “I have different things to do with my life.”
As the system in Pakistan is now changing every month, it is impossible to predict what will happen in the future.
“This argument is closed in my opinion. I don’t think it would be wise for me to return after being away for three years. At least for the time being. “I’m not sure what will occur over the next few years,” he said in closing.
Amir might definitely return to the Pakistan cricket team, even if he has repeatedly declined to do so. This is because of his strong bond with Shaheen Afridi and the fact that the T20 World Cup is the upcoming competition.
Amir had played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakistan. 2020 marked his final international match.
