Not long ago, on April 10, 2022, the MQM-Pakistan joined the opposition in bringing a no-confidence resolution against the PTI administration of which it was a part. Following this, the MQM-P and PML-N formed an alliance and reached a written agreement. The story of this collaboration got traction when Nawaz Sharif arrived in Pakistan from London and met with a group from the MQM-P. During this conference, both parties not only reaffirmed their electoral alliance, but also committed to keep it even after the elections.
Pakistan’s general elections were held on February 8, 2024. The MQM-P won 17 National Assembly seats from Karachi and Hyderabad. As the outcomes emerged, it became clear that the government this time would be a coalition. Therefore, the MQM’s 17 seats became crucial, and negotiations between the PML-N and the MQM-P continued positively until the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) made a final decision to form a government with the PML-N.
Has the usefulness of MQM-Pakistan already been outlived by being ignored and marginalized?
MQM-P has decided not to follow PPP and PML-N's dictation
