LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, Punjab’s first female Chief Minister, has decided the names of key cabinet members less than a week after taking the oath of office, officials familiar with the situation confirmed Monday.
Maryam, Pakistan’s first woman chief minister, won the elections with 220 votes in the provincial parliament last week.
According to the sources, a 15-member provincial cabinet would take their oaths of office over the following two days, with the cabinet’s strength increasing later.
According to reliable sources, former security czar Rana Sanaullah would be appointed as the CM’s legal adviser, while Marriyum Aurangzeb will be given the portfolio of planning, development, and forest.
According to insiders, another proposal to include Sanaullah in the federal cabinet is also being considered.
PML-N leader Uzma Bukhari is expected to be named as information minister.
In addition, Khawaja Imran Nazir will be appointed Minister of Primary and Secondary Healthcare, with Bilal Yaseen serving as Minister of Food.
Mujtaba Shuja would receive the Ministry of Excise. According to sources, Khalid Jajja and Faisal Ayub will be handed the Water Resources and Housing & Sports ministries, respectively.
Salman Naeem, Rana Sikandar, and Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, son of senior politician Shujaat Hussain, will all be members of the provincial cabinet.
Apart from this, PML-N senior politician Parvez Rasheed would be appointed as special assistant to the CM, the sources added.
