The giants were introduced to the UK some 160 years ago, and according to a recent study, their growth rate is comparable to that of their American counterparts.
Compared to 80,000 in California, there are an estimated 500,000 trees in the UK.
They haven’t grown as tall yet, though. They grow up to 90 meters high in California, while the highest one in the UK is 54.87 meters.
However, that’s only because the newly planted trees are still quite young. With a lifespan of almost 2,000 years, giant redwoods provide ample opportunity for the trees of the United Kingdom to catch up.
Britain is home to the largest trees in the world, giant redwoods.
The tallest trees in the world, giant redwoods, are thriving in the UK and have surpassed their original range in California in number.
