The French Football Federation has sparked controversy by refusing to allow Muslim players to break their Ramadan fast during evening matches, citing existing laws.
According to a statement issued by the federation, all football teams, referees, and match organizers have been advised of the decision, which prevents players from breaking their fast during matches, identical to the policy imposed last year.
The federation stated that no special arrangements would be made to accommodate Ramadan fasting for Muslim players competing in French League 1 games.
This decision contrasts with pronouncements made by football bodies in England and Germany, which allow players to resume matches after breaking their fast.
French media stated that the president of the French Football Federation’s panel showed reservations.
