Four shows, including Happy Valley, The Gold, Slow Horses, and Top Boy, will compete for the prize, which is expected to be one of the biggest of the evening.
The Demon 79 episode of Black Mirror, with seven nominations, is just behind The Crown with seven BAFTA TV nominations. The Sixth Commandment, The Last of Us, The Long Shadow, and Succession are also multiple times on the shortlist.
The final season of The Crown, which followed the Royal Family for six seasons, focused on the years between the late 1990s and 2005. This included William’s meeting with Kate, Charles and Camilla’s wedding, and the fallout from Princess Diana’s murder.
Despite earning less praise from critics than in past seasons and facing backlash for its portrayal of events like Diana’s passing, the show has succeeded in the TV nominations.
Salim Daw (Mohamed Al Fayed), Elizabeth Debicki (Princess Diana), and Lesley Manville (Princess Margaret) are on the shortlist in the supporting categories. Dominic West, who portrayed the then-prince Charles, is nominated for best actor. The series is also vying for craft honors in the areas of visual effects, sound, make-up and hair, and costume design.
