On Monday, Karachi witnessed a decline in temperature as brisk winds from Balochistan swept through the city at a velocity of 38 km/h. The minimum temperature dropped to 15.5°C, signaling the onset of colder weather in Karachi. The cold air, originating from a western system entering the country through Balochistan, is currently impacting Sindh and Balochistan.

Monday morning also experienced reduced visibility due to fog, with recorded visibility reaching two kilometers in the city’s atmosphere.

As the western system continues to influence weather patterns, meteorological experts anticipate that Karachi will experience stronger-than-normal winds the following day.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had previously predicted the arrival of cold weather on December 18. Sardar Sarfraz, the PMD Karachi Chief, assured that while temperatures are expected to drop further on Wednesday, they are unlikely to reach single digits.

The PMD has forecasted mainly cold and dry weather for most plain areas of the country in the next 24 hours, with very cold weather expected in northern areas. Fog/smog is likely in upper Sindh, plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during morning and night hours.

According to the synoptic, continental air prevailed over most parts of the country. In the last 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in northern regions.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Leh -6°C, Skardu, Kalam, Astore, Gupis, Kalat -05°C, Gilgit -04°C, Quetta, Rawalakot, Hunza, and Dir -03°C.
