The space agency announced on Monday that the cylindrical piece of metal, measuring 10 cm (four inches) in height and about 4 cm (1.5 inches) in width, weighed 0.7 kg (1.6 lbs) and had been jettisoned from the International Space Center in 2021.
According to NASA, the metal support is utilized to arrange outdated batteries for disposal on a shipping pallet.
One component of the pallet survived the three years since it was abandoned from the space station. It was anticipated that the load would finally burn up completely upon entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
During the incident, Mr. Otero told WINK news station that the item produced a “tremendous sound” as it tore through his roof and tore up the flooring, almost missing his son.
