Ten Years to Save the West by Liz Truss violates the minister’s memoir guidelines.

The guidelines prohibiting ministers from releasing memoirs on their tenure in government were broken by Liz Truss's book.

The book Ten Years to Save the West, written by the former prime minister, was released earlier this week and recounts her experiences as the UK’s least-serving leader.
Ms. Truss sent the book to Cabinet Office civil servants for assessment, but she did not wait for final approval before publishing.

“This book was submitted to the Cabinet Office for review,” a Cabinet Office representative stated. We did not agree with the final wording, even though we would not disclose the specifics of any negotiations. Therefore, the author violates the Radcliffe Rules.”

The Radcliffe Rules forbade the publication of material that could jeopardize national security, the UK’s foreign relations, or the privacy of government business. They were enacted in the wake of the 1970s publication of Richard Crossman’s cabinet diaries.
