Five soldiers have been killed by friendly fire in Gaza’s north, where fierce combat has returned after more than seven months of Israel’s battle against Hamas rebels, the Israeli military said on Thursday.
The military stated in a statement that the soldiers were slain on Wednesday around 7 p.m. in the vicinity of the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.
With these most recent deaths, the total number of Israeli soldiers lost in the military action in Gaza since the ground offensive began on October 27 is 278.
According to a military statement, “fire by our forces resulted in a mass casualty incident last night that claimed the lives of five soldiers of the 202nd Paratrooper Battalion and wounded seven more.”
