A member of Israel’s three-man war cabinet has vowed to leave if the government does not approve a new plan for the Gaza conflict.
Benny Gantz’s move exacerbates a schism among Israel’s leadership more than seven months into the conflict.
Israel has yet to achieve its claimed goals of destroying Hamas and returning scores of captives kidnapped during the attack on October 7th.
Mr Gantz, a long-time political foe of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has now unveiled a six-point plan that includes the release of hostages, the end of Hamas rule, the demilitarization of Gaza, and the establishment of an international administration of civilian affairs.
Mr Gantz’s strategy also helps to normalise relations with Saudi Arabia.
