According to the Hamas-run health ministry, an Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah has killed at least 45 individuals, including women and children.
Videos captured the scene on Sunday night in the Tal al-Sultan area, where there was a big explosion and strong fires.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) declared that it had taken the lives of two high-ranking Hamas officials and that it was investigating claims that the strike and fire it started had injured civilians.
A few hours earlier, Hamas fired eight rockets towards Tel Aviv from Rafah; these were the first long-range strikes on the major Israeli city since January.
Approximately 800,000 Palestinians have left Rafah since the Israeli ground offensive began.
Israeli strikes on Rafah are said to have killed dozens of people.
