Since arriving from the Chicago Red Stars in 2019, the 30-year-old captain of Australia, whose contract was set to expire this summer, has scored 99 goals in 128 games.
In addition to three FA Cups, two League Cups, and the Community Shield with Chelsea, Kerr has won five consecutive Women’s Super League crowns.
Additionally, she has won the Golden Boot twice and finished second in the Ballon d’Or competition last year behind Aitana Bonmati of Spain.
The WSL winners Chelsea first made hints that Kerr was about to leave in an external video that they released on Thursday morning. Twenty minutes later, the club released another video announcing the deal.
Kerr remarked, “It’s a really proud moment for me, and it’s really exciting.”
It means a lot to me to be able to stay at a team like Chelsea. I can’t wait to keep working hard and aiming for awards.”
Due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Kerr hasn’t played since January and won’t be traveling with the Australian team to the Olympics in Paris this summer.
Kerr was accused of racially aggravated harassment of a London police officer in March, and she entered a not guilty plea.
