Tasmania offers ‘strange jobs’ to attract winter travelers.

Tasmania has started a lighthearted “odd jobs” campaign to increase travel during the colder months.
During the off-season, the island state in Australia is providing its citizens with the chance to replace the “daily grind” of their work with a unique temporary position.
Among the ten positions on offer are those of stargazer, wombat walker, and paranormal investigator.
The Tasmanian Tourist Board will pay for all of the selected applicants’ expenses, including travel, lodging, and meals, even though the positions are unpaid.
According to Tourism Tasmania, the role of paranormal investigator is one-day only and volunteer.
It entails employing “the latest ghost-hunting equipment” to detect paranormal activity at Willow Court, one of Australia’s oldest asylums, and is open to anyone interested in “history and mystery”.

Working as a “oyster organiser” involves sorting, cleaning, and classifying recently collected oysters from Great Oyster Bay.
Significantly, there will also be the chance to “taste-test” the oysters; however, Tourism Tasmania states that this is “purely for quality control”.

Train aficionados are encouraged to apply for the one-day “puffer nut” position, which will see the successful candidate accompany the Lynchford Express steam train as it crosses the west coast of Tasmania.
Those who would like to spend a night observing the skies with Tasmania’s Astronomical Society are also being sought.
Those who are willing to accompany the marsupials “on their morning waddle” can find employment as wombat walkers, truffle hunters, and “wine whisperers.”.
