The Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (IALPA) recommended an additional strike on Thursday, according to Irish network .
It came after discussions to settle the continuing wage dispute between it and Aer Lingus broke down without a result.
After pilots started an indefinite work-to-rule on Wednesday, the airline invited IALPA to a discussion.
This included refraining from doing any extra work or after-hours responsibilities.
On Saturday, there will be an eight-hour strike from 5:00 to 13:00 local time.
The IALPA had demanded that members receive a wage increase of 24%.
According to union representative Capt. Mark Tighe, the 24% raise reflects a cumulative amount of inflation from our most recent salary increase in 2019.
Speaking on Friday to News NI’s Good Morning Ulster, Capt. Tighe said that the union has stated it would accept less than an inflationary raise in an attempt to end the conflict.
Although we think that no one should receive less than inflation, we did say yesterday that we would accept less than inflation in an attempt to find a solution.
But he went on, saying, “We think inflation is a very reasonable claim in this current time.”
