The country’s previous chief of staff, General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, made threats to impose martial law, according to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday. Bajwa was requesting a second term extension in November 2022.
The senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made this comment in response to a remark made to the media by Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan, who claimed that his close buddy Bajwa had not requested an extension.
The PA speaker, who is also a member of the PML-N, spoke of his encounter with the ex-serviceman at the US embassy the day before, during which Bajwa refuted rumors that he was seeking an extension.
He suggested that Khawaja Asif might not have remembered certain aspects.
