Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, offered a “solution” to the decades-high inflation that her impoverished countrymen have to endure. She asserted that the sooner votes are cast in support of the lion, her party’s electoral symbol, the sooner the inflation wave will break.
The PML-N leader, who launched her party’s election campaign the day before, proposed the “new solution” at a corner meeting while she was in the Lahore PP-159 seat.
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the consumer price index (CPI) for the nation increased by 29.7% in December 2023 over the previous year.
In 2023, the country saw its highest-ever inflation rate of about 241 million people. Its currency also fell to all-time lows until a $3 billion bailout deal from the International Monetary Fund saved the country from an impending sovereign default in July of last year.Maryam reminded the public of the “development, infrastructure, and mass transit projects” that the late prime ministers of the Pakistan Muslim League—Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shehbaz Sharif—had initiated, adding that they set new benchmarks for “service” in Lahore. She also called on the public to vote for them on February 8.
Launching a new attack on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which was formed by Imran Khan, she declared that the party had abandoned Lahore and asked the people to drive the “intruders” out of the city on election day.
If her party is elected to power, the vice president of the PML-N has promised to alter the course of events in Lahore, Punjab, and Pakistan.
Speaking to a different group of people at a welcome camp in Nishtar Colony, Lahore, the daughter of the three-time former prime minister asked them to support the PML-N in the upcoming elections in order to support Nawaz’s bid for a second term in office.
