With his 35th victory in July, Cavendish, 39, surpassed the record for most stage wins in the Tour de France. Since then, he has not participated.
After this summer’s 15th Tour’s last stage, the “Manx Missile” declared that it was “probably” the last race of his career.
Cavendish stated, “I still have races this year,” when asked about his future in the sport. It will be incredibly lovely to race as a Knight Commander, and I’m still training for them.”
After failing to win on the Tour since 2018, Cavendish made his first retirement announcement at the end of the 2020 season. However, he bounced back the next year.
Following the devastating event of his race-ending collision in 2023, just as he was about to make racing history, Cavendish decided not to retire right away and extended his contract with the Astana-Qazaqstan Team through the end of the 2024 campaign.
He also reaffirmed that he will not be competing on the Tour again, even though he did not disclose any plans for retirement.
Cavendish declared, “I’ve already said I won’t do another Tour de France.”
