Around 7:00 p.m. on Friday, police were called in response to concerns that a man was on the plane, which was scheduled to depart from Manchester Airport for Milan.
The man in his 20s was detained by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers on suspicion of hiding with the intention of being carried aboard an aircraft without permission and of willfully or carelessly causing a disturbance to the public.
It was necessary to evacuate every passenger and their belongings from the aircraft, as is customary in situations like this.
There was nothing unusual discovered within the plane, and there is no indication that the event had anything to do with terrorism.
The man is still being questioned by police while their investigations are ongoing.
EasyJet claimed in a statement that “additional security checks… were necessary due to a passenger incorrectly boarding the flight” for its EZY2127 trip.
The airline went on to say, “Since safety and security are our top priorities, we will now investigate how he was able to board the flight with our ground partner at Manchester Airport.”
Manchester Airport stated that the traveler was “properly screened” by its security “so passenger safety was never an issue” and that it was investigating the incident in conjunction with the airline and the police.
