According to local sources, a Russian airstrike on a town in eastern Ukraine has killed 24 people and injured 19.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the dead were “ordinary civilians” in Yarova, Donetsk area, who were picking up their pensions. Vadym Filashkin, the regional leader, advised locals to “evacuate to safer regions” while emergency personnel worked on the situation.
As Russian forces move slowly eastward, Yarova lies just a few kilometers from the front line and to the north of Slovyansk, one of the major cities in the area.
Forty-two months into Russia’s full-scale invasion, the death toll, if verified, would rank among the most severe attacks on Ukrainian civilians in recent weeks.
