Matt Damon has talked about the big body change he made for his role in The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan. He said he lost almost 40 pounds and gained muscle to look lean and strong, just like the director wanted.
Matt spoke about it on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce. He said he was in great shape during filming and that losing that much weight was a big deal for him, especially at 55.
Matt explained that the change came from hard workouts and a very strict diet. One of the biggest changes was cutting out gluten after advice from his doctor. Before the movie, his weight usually stayed between 185 and 200 pounds. During filming, he dropped to 167.
He said he had not weighed that little since high school. Getting there took a lot of training and discipline.
He worked with a trainer, which helped him stay on track. Over time, exercise and diet became part of his daily routine.
Even after filming ended, Matt has stayed gluten free. Travis Kelce joked about how hard that must be since his fiancée Taylor Swift loves baking. Matt said it has not been as difficult as people think.
He shared that he now eats and drinks gluten free, even beer. He said it has been so long since he had gluten that he cannot tell the difference anymore.
Matt’s transformation has caught a lot of attention. His longtime friend Ben Affleck said interviewers kept asking him about Matt’s fit body at a recent premiere. Ben joked that people acted like Matt had found the secret to life.
Ben added that while Matt looks great, getting into that kind of shape after 50 is not easy. He laughed and said it only gets harder with age.
