Children in the Vale of Glamorgan have created their own version of the popular TV show The Traitors. At Llangan Primary School, traditional playground games have been replaced by roundtables, secret roles, and even Claudia Winkleman wigs.
During breaks, pupils gather to find traitors, just like on the TV show. Nine-year-old Jack plays the host. He wears a wig to look like Claudia Winkleman. Jack says the game is “like a brand new tag.” He enjoys it because it helps him forget about lessons for a while.
Jack also likes taking on the role of host. He enjoys adapting the game for children and making it their own.
Jude, also nine, said the game includes challenges and roundtable discussions, similar to the show. It encourages boys and girls to play together. Pupils even interact with classmates they usually wouldn’t.
One of the most popular parts of the game is the banishment round. Eight-year-old Masie loves this stage because everyone can share opinions without arguing. Instead of fighting, the children release their energy through the game. She added that “everyone at school is talking about it.”
The success of The Celebrity Traitors has boosted interest in the original series. The fourth season already has more than 11 million viewers, surpassing previous seasons. Its popularity has clearly influenced children as well.
Nine-year-old Florence said she is a big fan. She enjoys the school version because it is exciting and unpredictable. Alfie started playing after his brother introduced him to the show. He quickly became hooked.
Headteacher James Griffiths said teachers first introduced the game before Christmas. Since then, children have created their own rules and versions.
Staff were surprised by how engaged the students became. They now see it as a positive activity. The game helps children improve problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
Griffiths added that seeing students fully committed is a joy. He especially enjoyed seeing Jack arrive in his wig and cloak. The excitement at the school shows no signs of slowing down. It’s clear the children are captivated by The Traitors.
