The country’s transport minister claims that although sixteen youngsters and three teachers are said to have escaped, 22 students and three teachers are still missing.
According to the news Thai service, authorities claim to have discovered ten bodies on board the bus.
Images capture the bus’s total destruction due to the fire. Local media reports claim that the heat prevented investigators from getting inside the car.
Three buses, including this one, were returning from a school field trip in the northern province of Uthai Thani with students and teachers.
According to Transport Minister Suriyahe Juangroongruangkit, compressed natural gas was used to power the bus.
At the site, Mr. Suriyahe informed reporters, “This is a very tragic incident.”
He continued, “The ministry needs to come up with a plan… if at all possible, to outlaw the use of this kind of fuel in passenger cars like this because it is very dangerous.”
Meanwhile, ministers have been ordered to visit the scene by Thailand’s prime minister.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra remarked, “As a mother, I would like to express my deepest regrets to the families of those killed.”
“The government will be responsible for all the medical costs and the compensation for those killed,” she stated.
