A shocking complaint filed against Facebook’s parent corporation Meta claims that Netflix accessed private Facebook communications of users as part of a long-standing and clandestine “special relationship” between the two internet titans.
According to some reports, this data trading has been going on “for close to a decade.” Additionally, Netflix is returning user data in return for private chats.
Maximilian Klein and Sarah Grabert have filed a complaint against the corporations alleging that they shared “client-specific access” in an agreement that allowed Netflix to customize material for individual users.
According to reports in the press, Reed Hastings’s close acquaintance with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg may have contributed to Netflix and Meta’s mutually beneficial economic relationship.
Formally, it is said that Hastings, a member of Facebook’s board from 2011 to 2019, was instrumental in fostering their relationship throughout that period.
Court filings revealed that the two businesses agreed to customize corporate partnerships and other connections to support Facebook’s ad-matching and ranking algorithms.
Thirty days after Hastings joined Facebook, the board purportedly inked a “Inbox API” arrangement that gave Netflix programmatic access to users’ private messaging interfaces.
