These unusual dogs, referred to as talented word learners (GWL), have demonstrated in earlier studies that they possess the extraordinary capacity to learn the names of hundreds of different items.
But a recent study that was just published in the journal Biology Letters indicates that kids may be able to recall the names of some of these toys for a considerable amount of time.
It is hoped that the gifted canines will contribute to scientific knowledge regarding the memory retention processes of animals other than humans.
Head of the research group at Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary, Dr. Claudia Fugazza, stated: “We know that dogs can remember odors for up to a year and events for at least 24 hours.”
Because our current study exclusively examined GWL dogs—individuals who exhibit a unique skill for learning object words—its conclusions cannot be applied to other dog breeds.
