Prime Minister’s adviser Dr. Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah has issued a strong warning against unilaterally altering transboundary water flows, describing such acts as a threat to sustainable development and a breach of international rules.
“Any attempt to unilaterally alter transboundary water flows or weaponize water access is not only dangerous, but contrary to international norms and sustainable development goals,” Dr. Shah said during the Rome Water Dialogue, which was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Shah voiced grave worries about India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) when speaking on behalf of Pakistan at the international event, which was attended by representatives from hundreds of nations, development specialists, and leaders of civil society.
For many years, the Indus Waters Treaty has been seen as an example of collaboration.
