The disagreement between the government and the judiciary has persisted since the Supreme Court’s comprehensive ruling in the reserved seats case, which was hailed as a significant victory for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Senator Irfan Siddiqui has stated that “amendments made by the parliament cannot be challenged in any court.”
“You [the judiciary] were created by the Constitution, not the other way around,” the Senator questioned the September 23 ruling, which determined that the former ruling party could have reserved seats in legislatures, during a press conference on Wednesday.
The ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) suffered a significant setback following the reserved seats verdict. This was because the coalition lost the two-thirds majority in the lower house of parliament, which was necessary to approve a constitutional modification and forced the President to step in.
