Iran Holds Grand Funeral for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Amid Mixed Public Reactions
    July 7, 2026
A two year old boy who survived six days trapped beneath the rubble of his home has become a symbol of hope in Venezuela after rescue teams pulled him to safety. His aunt has now promised to care for him while the search for his missing parents continues. Kleiber Moran was rescued from the remains of his family home in La Guaira during an overnight operation carried out by an international rescue team. His survival has inspired people across the country as thousands of families continue to face the heartbreaking effects of the devastating earthquakes. Officials described the rescue as a rare moment of hope during an ongoing disaster that has claimed thousands of lives and left many people missing. Aunt Promises to Protect Her Nephew Twenty three year old Andreína Sarmiento rushed to the hospital after learning that her nephew had been rescued alive. She said the emotional moment overwhelmed her, and she immediately traveled to be by his side. Andreína shared that she will care for Kleiber with all the love and support she can give until her sister is found. Although she has never been a mother, she said she feels responsible for protecting the young boy during this difficult time. She explained that her sister often joked that Kleiber was like her own son. Those memories now make her determination even stronger as the family waits for more news. Child Recovering Well in Hospital Doctors say Kleiber escaped without any broken bones despite spending nearly a week trapped beneath collapsed concrete. He only suffered minor scratches on his arms and legs. When he first arrived at the hospital, the toddler was frightened and cried constantly. After receiving medical care and rest, his condition improved quickly. Andreína said he now talks to her, gives her little kisses, and points to the places where he still feels pain. He is spending his recovery surrounded by toys and other children who also survived the earthquake. Search Continues for Missing Parents While the family celebrates Kleiber's remarkable survival, they remain deeply worried about his parents, Ana Luz and Carlos, who are still missing. Rescue teams continue searching through damaged buildings in the hope of finding more survivors. Every successful rescue brings renewed determination to families waiting for news of their loved ones. For Andreína, joy and sadness exist side by side. She feels grateful that her nephew survived, yet she continues to pray that her sister and brother in law will also be found alive. The rescue of the young boy has become a powerful reminder that hope can still emerge even after days beneath the rubble.

North American Free Trade Deal Faces Uncertain Future as USMCA Review Deadline Arrives The United States, Canada, and Mexico have reached a key milestone in the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). However, trade officials are not expected to finalize any major decisions on the July 1 deadline. Representatives from all three countries will hold formal discussions as part of the scheduled review process. While Canada and Mexico have publicly supported renewing the agreement, the United States has not yet announced its final position. Canada and Mexico Support the Trade Pact Canadian and Mexican leaders continue to back the USMCA, which serves as the foundation for trade across North America. The agreement supports businesses, workers, and industries that rely on cross-border commerce. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently indicated that he does not expect a final agreement to emerge from the current round of discussions. Instead, negotiations are likely to continue in the coming weeks and months. Canadian officials remain focused on protecting domestic industries, workers, and farmers while maintaining strong trade relationships with neighboring countries. Trump's Position Creates Uncertainty US President Donald Trump has raised concerns about the future of the agreement. He recently suggested that the deal could expire and argued that the United States might benefit from pursuing alternative trade arrangements. His comments have increased uncertainty surrounding the review process. As a result, businesses and investors are closely monitoring developments between the three countries. Trade tensions have also intensified due to tariff disputes and retaliatory measures, making negotiations more challenging than many analysts originally expected. Why the USMCA Matters The USMCA replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) during Trump's first presidential term. Since then, it has played a vital role in supporting economic cooperation across North America. The trade pact covers a market of approximately 510 million people and supports nearly $1.6 trillion in annual trade. It also strengthens major industries, including automotive manufacturing, agriculture, and energy production. Many companies depend on the agreement because it reduces trade barriers and helps products move efficiently across borders. Trade Talks Will Continue Beyond July 1 Despite the importance of the July 1 review deadline, all three governments expect negotiations to continue afterward. Officials from the United States and Mexico have already scheduled additional bilateral discussions later this month. Experts believe the review process could extend for several months before the countries reach a clear conclusion regarding the future of the agreement. For now, the USMCA remains in effect and continues to provide significant trade benefits throughout North America. What's Next for North American Trade? The coming months will play a critical role in shaping the future of regional trade. Canada and Mexico remain committed to preserving the agreement, while the United States continues to evaluate its options. Although the July 1 deadline marks an important stage in the review process, it is unlikely to produce an immediate outcome. Instead, ongoing negotiations will determine whether the USMCA continues in its current form or undergoes significant changes.

    # Who Could Be the UK's Next Chancellor? With Sir Keir Starmer stepping down, many political observers expect Andy Burnham to become the next UK prime minister. If Burnham takes office, attention will quickly turn to one of the most important positions in government: the chancellor. The next chancellor will inherit a challenging economic situation. Rising public debt, weak economic growth, welfare reform pressures, increased defence spending, and global uncertainty are all on the agenda. As a result, the choice could have a direct impact on businesses, investors, and households across the UK. ## Wes Streeting Emerges as the Leading Contender Many bookmakers currently see Wes Streeting as the frontrunner for the chancellor role. Streeting previously competed for the Labour leadership but later backed Burnham. His support has led to speculation that he could be rewarded with one of the most powerful jobs in government. However, not everyone supports that idea. Economist Lord Jim O'Neill has suggested that the role should go to the most qualified candidate rather than someone seeking recognition for political loyalty. Although Burnham and Streeting work within the same party, they often differ on economic priorities. Burnham generally supports higher public spending, while Streeting is viewed as more cautious on government finances. Economic analysts describe Streeting as relatively friendly to business and growth. Supporters believe he could reassure financial markets. Critics, however, argue that his long term political ambitions could create challenges in government. ## Ed Miliband Remains a Strong Alternative Another name frequently mentioned is Ed Miliband. The former Labour leader is considered politically closer to Burnham. Many experts believe that strong alignment between the prime minister and chancellor helps create stable economic policy. Miliband brings significant experience to the table. Supporters argue that he has the knowledge and authority needed to guide the economy through difficult times. Some economists believe he could win market confidence by presenting a clear and consistent financial strategy. Others remain concerned about his economic approach. ## Concerns Over Energy Policy Critics often link Miliband's strong support for net zero policies to Britain's relatively high energy costs. Because of this perception, some analysts fear financial markets could react cautiously if he became chancellor. Investors typically look for policies that support stable growth while keeping inflation under control. Miliband has also faced criticism from parts of the trade union movement. Opponents argue that restrictions on new oil and gas projects in the North Sea could limit job creation and investment opportunities. ## Major Challenges Await the Next Chancellor Regardless of who secures the position, the next chancellor will face a difficult task. The UK economy continues to struggle with slow growth and high government borrowing. At the same time, public services require additional funding, while defence spending demands continue to increase. Global tensions and uncertainty in international markets add further pressure. The next chancellor will need to balance economic growth, public spending, and financial stability while maintaining confidence among businesses and investors. ## Final Thoughts The race to become the UK's next chancellor is already attracting significant attention. Wes Streeting and Ed Miliband currently lead the discussion, but the final decision will likely depend on Andy Burnham's broader economic vision. Whoever takes the role will play a crucial part in shaping the UK's financial future during a period of significant economic and political change.

Prince Harry Loses High Court Privacy Case Against Daily Mail Publisher Focus Keyphrase: Prince Harry loses High Court privacy case Meta Description: Prince Harry and six other claimants lost their High Court privacy case against Associated Newspapers after the judge ruled there was not enough evidence to prove unlawful information gathering. Court Rules Against Prince Harry and Other Claimants Prince Harry and six other well known public figures have lost their High Court privacy case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. The court ruled that the claimants failed to provide enough evidence to prove that the newspaper group collected information through unlawful methods. The legal action focused on allegations that journalists used illegal practices to gather private information for news stories. Associated Newspapers strongly denied every allegation throughout the case. Judge Says Suspicion Is Not Enough Mr Justice Nicklin explained that the allegations were serious and required strong and convincing evidence. He said that suspicion alone could not prove unlawful information gathering, even if the claimants believed their privacy had been violated. The judge stressed that each allegation had to stand on its own. He refused to make a broader ruling about whether unlawful information gathering had become common practice within the newspaper group. Newspaper Staff's Evidence Accepted The court accepted the explanations provided by Associated Newspapers journalists about how they obtained information for the disputed stories. According to the judgment, the journalists gave lawful accounts of their reporting methods. The judge also ruled that the claimants failed to prove that former editors Paul Dacre and Peter Wright, along with senior company lawyer Elizabeth Hartley, gave false evidence during the Leveson Inquiry. The court found no proof that these senior figures had lied when they denied unlawful practices within the company. Prince Harry's Complaint Over Private Information One of the disputed articles was published in 2013. It reported that Prince Harry would spend New Year's Eve away from his then girlfriend, Cressida Bonas. Prince Harry argued that the article revealed private details about their separate locations. He described the situation as "creepy" and questioned how journalists obtained the information. The claim suggested that a freelance journalist had been asked to obtain Ms Bonas's travel details through deceptive methods. However, Mr Justice Nicklin said the evidence did not prove that unlawful activity had taken place. He acknowledged that Prince Harry genuinely felt the article invaded his privacy, but he stated that personal suspicion could not replace factual proof. Associated Newspapers Welcomes the Decision Following the ruling, a spokesperson for Associated Newspapers described the judgment as an overwhelming victory for the Daily Mail and its journalists. The publisher maintained throughout the legal proceedings that its reporting methods complied with the law. The judgment closes another major legal challenge involving media privacy and reinforces the principle that serious allegations require clear and convincing evidence before a court can rule in a claimant's favor.

Buckingham Palace Says Prince Harry Will Not Stay at Palace During London Visit Confusion Over Royal Accommodation Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Prince Harry will not stay at a royal residence during his visit to London this week. The announcement came after conflicting statements from both Buckingham Palace and the Duke of Sussex's team regarding an accommodation offer. According to palace officials, they offered Prince Harry a place to stay at a royal residence. However, they said his team did not respond before the deadline. Palace sources explained that the invitation was later declined, making it difficult to finalize arrangements. Later that day, Prince Harry's team reportedly changed its decision and accepted the offer. By that time, palace staff said it was too late to prepare the accommodation and organize the necessary support. Prince Harry's Team Disagrees A spokesperson for Prince Harry presented a different version of events. They stated that the duke had formally accepted the invitation and believed Buckingham Palace later withdrew the offer. The spokesperson described the decision as disappointing. They also questioned why the palace could not provide accommodation for a single night after the acceptance had already been sent. The Sussex team rejected suggestions that Prince Harry's legal case influenced the decision. They said everyone already knew when the court ruling would be announced, so it should not have affected the accommodation plans. Court Case Adds More Attention Royal sources said there were concerns about Prince Harry staying at a royal residence while a court ruling involving his legal action against Associated Newspapers was expected. Palace officials reportedly wanted to avoid any situation that could affect King Charles' neutral position. They believed public attention surrounding the court decision might create unnecessary controversy if Prince Harry commented on the outcome while staying at a royal property. Prince Harry's representatives dismissed that explanation and maintained that the legal case had nothing to do with the accommodation issue. Different Accounts From Both Sides The disagreement has highlighted the ongoing communication problems between Buckingham Palace and Prince Harry's team. Each side continues to give a different explanation of what happened. Palace officials insist the invitation expired because the response arrived too late. Meanwhile, Prince Harry's spokesperson says the offer had already been accepted before it was withdrawn. Neither side has shown any sign of accepting the other's version of events. Impact on Royal Relations The disagreement has created fresh tension between the royal household and the Duke of Sussex. It also raises new questions about whether Prince Harry will meet King Charles during his visit to London. Although both sides have not commented further, the latest dispute may make future discussions between them even more difficult. As Prince Harry continues his visit to support his charitable work, attention remains focused on the growing distance between the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace.

Tinder, Zoom and Tinder users can now be verified by using eye scans Tinder and Zoom have launched a new system of identity that relies on iris scans to verify whether or not a person is human. This feature is intended to help reduce the number of fake accounts, bots and AI-generated identities, which are increasingly difficult to detect on the internet. After the eye scan, users receive a badge that says "Proof of Humanity". The badge is displayed on the user's profile to prove that they are a genuine person. The Iris Scan system works The user can verify their identity using a mobile application or an orb-shaped scanner. This scans captures the colored portion of the eye, the iris. After the scanner is approved, a digital ID called World ID will be created. The ID can be stored in the phone of the user and used on all supported platforms. World Network Behind the Technology Worldcoin, formerly known as Worldcoin, is the source of this technology. The technology is being developed by Tools for Humanity. Sam Altman co-founded and chairs the startup, which also runs OpenAI. As online content grows increasingly automated, the company claims that this system will separate human accounts from AI-driven ones. Why platforms are adopting it Tinder is facing a problem of fake profiles and fraudulent accounts. These accounts often use AI to create convincing images and conversation to fool users. Match Group which is Tinder's owner, added video self-portrait checks. This new option to scan your iris is intended to provide a more robust level of security. Zoom also faces a new risk. The DeepFake Technology has enabled people to pretend to be real during video chats, such as executives or coworkers. Growing Concerns About AI Scams The use of deepfake fraud is on the rise. One reported case from Hong Kong involved a worker being tricked by AI-generated fakes into sending $25 million. In the next few years, AI-driven fraud may cause losses of tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars. The Next Step World ID will allow Tinder and Zoom to scan their iris and verify identity if desired. These companies claim that this will help to restore trust when it comes to online interactions, where AI impersonation has become more prevalent.

Can a digital twin turn workers into superworkers? What is Digital Richard? Digital Richard, an AI-based digital twin for Richard Skellett is created by Digital Richard. The interface is a screen-based version of Richard Skellett. The system learns through his calls, meetings, documents and presentations. It also analyzes how he solves his problems and thinks. It doesn't behave like an ordinary chatbot. In a structured manner, it reflects both his knowledge and working style. The System Works ChatGPT is used to build the digital twin. The system processes large quantities of data, both personal and professional. Then, it organizes the information to respond according to Skellett’s reasoning and decisions. Separate areas are available for both work and private use. Only colleagues who work together can access information related to business. Skellett relies on the Twin to help him make decisions and present clients. He also uses it to manage his daily tasks. Effects on the Workplace Bloor Research is expanding the use of this method across their global team. It is the goal to make a digital copy of each employee. Some employees use the digital twin before retiring to reduce their workload. Some workers use their digital twin during extended leave. One case involved a digital twin who handled parts of the work for a marketing worker on maternity. It reduced the need to hire temporary employees. This approach is expected to become the standard in knowledge-based jobs. The Industry as a Whole Experts in technology predict that the digital replication of employees will be commonplace within a few years. Gartner, for example, expects this sector to grow rapidly. AI-based systems are being tested by companies that mimic communication and work habits. There have also been reports that large tech companies are also exploring the same ideas with senior executives. The Meaning of This Could Be By automating routine tasks and assisting in decision-making, digital twins can increase productivity. Workers could focus more on high-value work. This raises issues of control, responsibility, and privacy. These systems will require clear guidelines for companies.

World Athletics prevents 11 athletes from changing allegiances to Turkey Recruitment plan raises concerns World Athletics turned down 11 requests by elite athletes to represent Turkey at international competitions. The officials said that the applications are linked to an effort coordinated to attract foreign athletes by offering attractive financial incentives. According to the governing body, the initiative was led by a sports club backed by the government and was designed to improve Turkey's chances of winning medals at future competitions including the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Athletes of high profile affected Five Kenyans were also part of the group, including former world marathon record-holder Brigid Kossei. The list also included four Jamaicans, one Nigerian and one Russian athlete. Roje Stona won the gold medal in men's discus at the 2024 Paris Games. The other athletes were Catherine Relin Amanang'ole. Brian Kibor. Ronald Kwemoi. Nelvin Jwemboi. Rajindra Campell. Jaydon Hibbert. Wayne Pinnock. Favour Ofili. Sophia Yakushina. World Athletics position World Athletics stated that approving such transfers would be against their eligibility rules. The organization said that there was a pattern in the requests that didn't match up with the rules of the sport regarding changing national representation. It also noted that the decision would compromise the integrity of the international competition. The 11 athletes will no longer be allowed to represent Turkey at any official national or international representative event. Turkish athletics: Background information In recent years, Turkey has heavily invested in talent importation to enhance its performance in global competitions. The country won eight medals in total, but no gold at the Paris Olympics of 2024. World Athletics officials said that the applications were rejected as part of an overall recruitment strategy. This raised questions about fairness and equality in international sports.

Pope criticizes foreign exploitation of Africa during Cameroon visit Crowds Welcome Pope in Conflict-Hit Bamenda During Pope Leo XIV's visit to troubled Anglophone Region, thousands of people gathered at Bamenda in Cameroon to greet him. A separatist conflict has caused violence in the city for years. People sang, danced and waving flags despite security concerns as Pope Francis arrived in his heavily-protected vehicle. Separatist groups announced temporary safe passages ahead of the Pope's visit. This allowed for a smooth event. A Strong Message Against the Exploitation and Abuse of Africa The Pope condemned the foreign powers who exploit Africa's rich natural resources. He spoke to around 20,000 people at an airport mass. He claimed that foreigners continue to exploit the resources of Africa for their own profit. This behavior, he said, worsens the local conflicts and increases instability in the entire region. The profits are used for funding conflicts and violence, causing a vicious cycle. Call for Peace and Accountability The Pope had attended an earlier peace meeting in Saint Joseph's Cathedral. He spoke there about the crisis that is currently taking place in Cameroon’s English-speaking areas. This conflict began in 2017. It has resulted in thousands of deaths and forced the displacement of many families. Separatists groups are fighting against government forces and accusing them of marginalizing the English-speaking community. He urged the Cameroonian leadership to tackle corruption and strive for lasting peace. The Pope stressed the importance of justice and accountability in achieving stability. Critique of global priorities The Pope also criticised global leaders for spending large sums of money on wars rather than addressing humanitarian problems. He said that global instabilities are still being driven by a few powerful individuals. He called for world leaders to focus on peace and the welfare of humans instead of conflicts. A visit focused on Africa's growing church The visit highlights Africa's importance as the region with the highest growth rate for the Catholic church. The Pope made it very clear that Africa is a crucial part of the future for the Catholic Church. He emphasized faith, justice and political awareness in his message, which reflected the current challenges facing many African countries.

Julius Malema's Prison sentence: What it means for his political future Julius Malema: Who is he and why this case matters Julius Malema has been sentenced five years behind bars as the leader of Economic Freedom Fighters. He was found guilty by the court of possessing an illegal firearm in public and shooting it. Malema, a prominent South African politician, is known for his outspokenness. He criticises Western influence, and calls for nationalisation of land owned by whites. He has a strong message that resonates strongly with the young voters, who are feeling economically left behind. His statements and actions, however, have also sparked controversy. His actions and statements have sparked controversy. His support base is loyal despite this. Will Julius Malema go to prison? You don't have to do it right away. Malema is entitled to appeal the sentence. He will remain free from prison as long as his appeal is pending. He admitted firing the weapon during the trial but claimed it was in celebration. However, the court still found that his actions had been illegal and dangerous. How to Appeal Malema intends to appeal both his conviction as well as sentence. His legal team will need to first obtain approval from the high court in order to overturn his conviction. The case can be reviewed if the high court approves. This move is likely to be opposed by the state. Malema has the right to take his case before the Constitutional Court of South Africa if necessary. Experts in law say that the entire process may take between four and five years. The case may remain active for some time. Is He Still a Parliamentary Member? For now, yes. South African law prohibits MPs from serving prison terms exceeding 12 months. This rule only applies after the appeals process is complete. Malema can appeal his conviction, so it isn't final. Malema can retain his seat in parliament and continue to be politically active. Also, he is expected to run in the upcoming local election. "Has Impact on His Political career " His career is not over yet, but the case leaves him in a state of uncertainty. Malema could gain support from the political establishment in the near future. Malema can portray himself as an opposition leader who is under legal pressure. This often increases loyalty from supporters. The risks on the long-term are significant. The courts could uphold his sentence and he may lose his position in the parliament. EFF could also suffer without him, since the party heavily relies on public perception and his influence.

Thousands gather for open-air mass led by Pope Leo XIV Massive crowd welcomes Pope in Douala Over 120,000 people gathered at Douala for a massive open-air Mass, led by Pope Leo XIV. It is the largest crowd he has seen during his 11 day tour of Africa. Early in the morning, the Japoma stadium and surrounding areas were crowded. People had arrived early the previous night to get a prime spot. As Pope Francis entered his Popemobile in the Vatican, thousands of people cheered and waved flags. They also captured the moment with their smartphones. A message of unity and peace The Pope's focus during the Mass was on the promotion of peace, community development, and discipline. The Pope urged the young to make good use of their talent and not choose harmful things. He warned people against violent acts and grabbing for quick gain that can harm society. He urged people to be honest and strive for progress. The message was sent shortly after his trip to the Anglophone Cameroon region which has been ravaged by conflict for many years. After hearing him speak, many attendees felt hopeful. Artificial Intelligence Risks In Yaounde the Pope raised concern about artificial intelligence. The Pope said that artificial intelligence can cause divisions and fear to spread if it is used carelessly. He said that people can lose their connection to reality if they depend too heavily on digital simulations. This can lead to isolated groups, and reduce meaningful interaction between people. African natural resources: a concern He also criticised the high demand for Africa’s natural resources. The Pope emphasized minerals such as cobalt which is widely used for modern technology, including AI. He said that uncontrolled mining of these resources would harm local communities and increase inequality. Faithfulness, dedication, and resiliency The worshippers were deeply involved despite the heat. Others held books or umbrellas to protect themselves from the heat. Some knelt down, prayed or lifted their hands to show devotion. It was a powerful display of unity and faith amongst people with different backgrounds. The event was described by many as an emotional experience. The next stops in Africa on the tour The Pope is on a tour of Africa. He will then travel to Angola, and finally Equatorial Guinea to conclude his journey.
