The longlist for the 2026 Bafta Film Awards is out, and some of Hollywood’s biggest stars have been left off. George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson, and Julia Roberts are among the notable omissions, despite their Golden Globe nominations for Jay Kelly, The Smashing Machine, and After the Hunt.
Leading the longlist is Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which appears in 16 categories. Other films with strong Bafta support include Hamnet and Sinners, each with 14 mentions, and Marty Supreme with 13. The final nominations will be announced on January 27, with six actors selected per category.
Bafta’s Track Record as Oscar Predictor
The Baftas are often a reliable guide for the Oscars. In the past 15 years, 13 Bafta best actor winners have gone on to win the Oscar. Similarly, ten of the last 12 Bafta best actress winners have also earned an Oscar. For actresses, Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye, 2022) and Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, 2010) are rare exceptions.
Standout Performances and Surprising Omissions
Adam Sandler did make the longlist for best supporting actor in Jay Kelly, giving him a shot at his first Bafta nomination.
Other films entirely missing from the longlist include Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and Daniel Day-Lewis’ comeback Anemone.

- Hamnet: Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal
- Wicked: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande

One Battle After Another features multiple longlist mentions for Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infiniti, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Teyana Taylor.
