The most common reason for women giving birth on their backs Birthing in a traditional upright position is no longer the norm Women have been giving birth to their babies in upright positions for thousands of years. The upright positions were chosen to support the flow of childbirth and the way the body naturally moves. Women are often placed backwards in modern hospitals, particularly those of many countries that have developed post-industrially. The change in medical practice, rather than human preference, is the reason for this relatively recent development. Modern practices in childbirth In the 1600s, it became popular to lie down while giving birth. Francois Mauriceau was a French doctor who promoted reclining. Mauriceau believed that it made birth easier and more comfortable for both women and doctors. At this time, pregnant women began to be treated as medical conditions. During this shift, the midwives' role was reduced and male doctors were more involved. Others historians suggest social factors also played a part. According to reports, King Louis XIV preferred to watch births in a more clear manner, and this may have influenced his preference for reclining positions. What upright postures make sense Midwives and experts in birth physiology agree on one thing: gravity is a big help to the process of birthing. Gravity helps the baby move through the birth canal when a woman is upright. During labour, many women choose to squat, kneel, or even lean forward. The positions chosen by women during labour are not at random. They correspond to the way their bodies work. Research on the birth position The benefits of upright positions for birthing are well-documented. Reviewing multiple studies that involved thousands of women, several positive results were found. The women who remain upright throughout labour usually experience: Reduced chances of Cesarean Delivery Epidurals are no longer necessary There are fewer neonatal babies in need of care A shorter workday is another key advantage. Positions that are upright can make contractions more efficient. Experts note also that standing up during birth may help to reduce the use of interventions like forceps or vacuum delivery. Additionally, improved blood flow may improve oxygen delivery to the infant. Limitations and considerations Although upright positions have many benefits, they are not suitable in every circumstance. Certain research has suggested that blood loss may increase, particularly in high-risk pregnancies. Medical guidance is crucial. Healthcare providers evaluate the best approach for each birth based on their individual needs. Choose your birth settings The environment can also influence how women deliver. Women are more inclined to choose upright positions and move around freely in supportive environments like birth centers. In these centres, tools such as birthing balls or stools are often available. In contrast, standard hospital delivery rooms may limit movement. A fixed bed may encourage lying down even when other positions are more natural. The conclusion of the article is: It isn't the only or most common way to give birth. The upright birth position has been part of the human experience for centuries and is supported both by instinct and scientific research. The modern healthcare system continues to find a balance between safety and these natural methods.

UK Marmalade May Be Renamed Under New Post Brexit Food Rules Key Subheading: EU Food Deal Could Change Marmalade Labelling in the UK The UK government is considering changes to marmalade labelling as part of a new food agreement with the EU. If the deal is approved, jars of the traditional spread may need to be labelled as “citrus marmalade” in shops across the UK. This update is linked to changes in EU food laws aimed at improving trade and reducing barriers for exporters. While the product itself will stay the same, the naming rules could shift to match international standards. Why the Name Marmalade Is Changing Under current UK rules, marmalade refers only to spreads made from citrus fruits like oranges. This definition dates back to regulations adopted before Brexit. Other fruit spreads are usually called jam. The EU is now expanding its definition. From June, non citrus fruit spreads can also be marketed as marmalade across Europe. However, citrus based versions will need to be labelled more clearly as “citrus marmalade”. This change follows long standing debates across Europe, where the word marmalade has been used differently in languages such as German, Spanish, and Italian. Impact on UK Consumers and Businesses The UK government says the product itself will not change. Shoppers will still find the same marmalade in stores. The difference will be in how it is labelled. Officials say the updated rules could help British producers export more easily by reducing red tape. The aim is to align with global standards and improve trade with EU markets. However, some concerns remain. Earlier assessments suggested that new naming rules could confuse consumers in the UK. It is still unclear whether products like “strawberry marmalade” will be allowed in British supermarkets. When Will the Changes Happen The timeline is not fixed yet. The changes may come into effect around 2027 if the wider EU food deal is agreed. It is also unclear whether the rules will apply before or after that date. What This Means for the Future This update reflects ongoing efforts to align UK food regulations with international systems. While it may seem like a small change, it highlights how trade agreements can influence everyday products and their labels.

New York Cannabis Industry Still Struggles, Despite Growing Awareness Cannabis is everywhere in New York City five years after its legalization. The industry appears to be thriving, from corner shops and stylish dispensaries. Behind this visible growth, however, there are serious problems for many businesses. Cannabis is everywhere, but not always legal The cannabis culture is evident throughout the city. Outside small shops, bright ads promote the products. Both tourists and locals are attracted to high-end dispensaries. The strong smell of marijuana can be detected in public places. This widespread legality isn't the whole story. Unlicensed dealers, also known as "weed bodegas", continue to exist. The shops that sell these products are not regulated, which raises concerns over quality and safety. The Public's Concerns are Growing The public opinion is beginning to change. Users of social media frequently critique the legalization process. Some people believe that the legalization process has allowed illegal vendors to expand too rapidly. The New York Times and other major publications have expressed concern. Recent editorials argued marijuana could be doing more harm than anticipated. The editorial also called for tighter regulations and improved enforcement. The Legal Business Sector is facing tough competition Cannabis businesses licensed to sell cannabis say that illegal dealers are harming their business. Unregulated stores often sell cheaper goods. Legal retailers are forced to struggle against these unregulated shops. Leaders in the industry explain that the high number of illegal sellers is what makes the market look successful. Many approved businesses struggle to stay afloat. The slow issuance of licenses is another major problem. The early delays led to growers having products but not legal outlets in which they could sell them. Illegal sellers quickly filled the gap created by this. The Legal Aspects Increase Pressure The laws governing cannabis in the United States are complex. Federal law continues to ban recreational marijuana use even though states such as New York allow it. It creates confusion in the business world, particularly when it comes to banking and taxes. Many companies are faced with higher costs due to these legal obstacles and receive limited financial assistance. Authorities Begin Crackdown Now, state officials are taking steps. The authorities are closing down illegal shops and tightening up enforcement. The police can close down illegal shops immediately. Gleichzeitig, more businesses with licenses are being opened. It could be a way to meet the demand for goods and services, while reducing reliance on grey markets. A Market Still Finding Its Balance New York’s cannabis industry continues to evolve. The system has been adjusting to a slower and more uneven start, even though the demand is still strong. In the coming years, it will be determined whether or not legal businesses are able to succeed.

Philippines Transport Workers Strike Over Rising Fuel Prices Transport workers from Manila are on strike to protest the rising fuel costs. Since the Iran War began on February 28, diesel and petrol prices have doubled, putting the Philippines in a state of national energy crisis. The Drivers are Hard Hit The driver, 62 years old, shared with us that he had no money to feed his children. Many drivers struggle to cover their daily costs and pay for rent. Some drivers were promised 5,000 pesos (83 dollars) by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Many, such as Guillermo Japole, 62, and Anjo Lilac (28), said that they had never received aid. Some jeepney operators are returning home to find other jobs. The Strike coincides with the New Oil Shipment A ship carrying more than 700,000 barrels Russian crude arrived in the country to start the two-day protest. Sara Sky is a vessel flying the flag of Sierra Leone, and it's part of government efforts to find new sources for oil. The President Ferdinand Marcos pledged that he would reduce the country's dependence on the oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. This is the source of 98% of its fuel. Worker's Demands The transport coalitions that are leading the protest have made a list of major demands. The coalitions want to scrap fuel taxes, reduce oil prices, and reverse deregulation. Others are calling for wage and fare hikes. Drivers of Jeepneys, motorcycles, and cars that offer ride-sharing services participated in the protests throughout the capital. The protesters held signs calling on the government to take action and offer more assistance. Impact on Commuters Manila, Asia's busiest urban center, has been affected by the strike. Arnold Irinco (52), waited for 30 minutes to get a government-sponsored ride. He understood the drivers' strike despite his inconvenience. Cash aid is not as helpful to drivers who say that direct actions such as reducing the cost of food, water, electricity and fuel would be better than cash assistance. One veteran jeepney operator explained: "We are choked. Our families are struggling to survive. "Cutting prices is the best solution to this problem."

World Cup 2026 final ticket prices hit record high of $11,000 Ticket Prices Surge in First Open Sale Prices for FIFA World Cup tickets 2026 have risen dramatically. Final match tickets can reach as much as $10,990. The standard football ticket is the most expensive ever. Early projections painted a different picture. The official bid from the United States, Canada and Mexico was expecting the final price to be approximately $1,550. This estimate is now far exceeded. The prices continue to climb The price of tickets has steadily increased with each stage. The official fans were able to purchase premium tickets in December for $8,680. Prices increased even more during the last phase of sales. The jump in price is substantial compared to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, when the highest priced final ticket was $1 604 (approximately). The sharp increase in ticket prices has caused concern amongst fans. The cost of dynamic pricing is higher Dynamic pricing is a key reason for the rise. The system automatically adjusts the ticket price based on market demand. Prices increase as interest increases. Fans saw price increases for high-demand games such as finals and knockout matches. The frustration of many buyers was increased by the fact that they were unaware in advance of any changes to ticket prices or availability. Prices of current tickets Based on data available from the ticketing system: Tickets in Category 1 are priced at $10,990 The Category 2 price rose by 33% from $5 575 to $7 380 The Category 3 price increased from $4,185 up to $5,785 (38%). The price increases are a good indicator of how rapidly prices change during the sales phases. The resale market reaches extreme levels The prices on the official platform for resale are higher. Some sellers list final tickets for extreme prices. One seller offered a single final ticket for $82,780. The growing difference between the official price and the resale market is evident. Fans react to rising costs Early ticket releases featured a small number of seats priced at $60, giving hope to fans on a budget. The latest price trend, however, has been criticized. Fans feel excluded from the event, particularly for matches of high profile. It is also difficult to plan in advance due to the lack of pricing information.

Alleged Bondi Gunman's Court Bid Rejected Sydney's High Court has denied Naveed Akram's request to protect the identity of his family. The court's decision allowed the identities of his brother, sister, mother and father to be revealed despite previous protections. Akram faces 59 charges in connection with a December attack on a Jewish Festival at Bondi Beach, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people. The legal team of Akram argued that disclosing the identities of his family could expose them to vigilantes. The Court considers public interest and online exposure The family details were initially suppressed by the court. Several media outlets challenged the order, and it was eventually lifted. He stated that this case had attracted a lot of public attention and was gaining global recognition. The judge also pointed out that much information on the family was already online and would reduce the effect of any suppression orders. The judge ruled that the 40-year suppression request did not comply with the legal standards for this protection. Families raise safety concerns The legal team of Akram said that the family was already facing harassment and threats. According to reports, people drove past the family's home shouting abuse and making death threats. Members of the family also reported receiving threatening calls and messages. Akram's mom expressed her fear for the safety of herself and her children. She said that she lives in constant terror. Court's view on the Suppression request He acknowledged that the judge's concerns were valid, but said the suppression of information would only have a limited effect. The judge pointed out that the order wouldn't apply to platforms outside Australia, or globally. Akram's driving licence, for example, was already available online. It was also less effective to try and restrict information in Australia. It was also noted that Akram's brothers and sisters were not relevant in the matter. Media Opposition against Suppression The media organisations were against the order. The media organisations argued the information had already been widely circulated and there were no immediate threats. The public interest of the case was deemed to be greater than the privacy request.

Next Article Most Painful Stings in the World: From Bullet Ants to Warrior Wasps Stings are one of nature’s most effective defense tools. Many animals, from insects to jellyfish, use venom packed with neurotoxins and inflammatory chemicals. These stings help them defend themselves or disable prey. Unlike biting animals such as snakes or spiders, stinging species attack using a specialized organ at the rear of their bodies. And in some cases, the pain they cause is extreme. How Scientists Measured Sting Pain One of the most well-known experts in this field is Justin Schmidt. He created the “Schmidt Sting Pain Index” by deliberately getting stung by dozens of insects. He ranked each sting from level 1 to level 4, based on how painful it felt. Level 1 includes mild stings. These are irritating but manageable. Level 2 brings stronger pain, often sharp and burning. By level 3, the pain becomes intense and difficult to تحمل. These stings can feel like burns or electric shocks. Level 4 Stings: The Worst of the Worst Only a few insects have reached level 4 on Schmidt’s scale. These are considered the most painful stings in the world. Bullet Ant The Bullet Ant is often ranked at the top. Found in Central and South American rainforests, this large ant delivers a sting that can last up to 24 hours. Victims describe it as deep, throbbing pain that spreads through the body. The intensity is so strong that it can affect movement and focus for an entire day. Tarantula Hawk Wasp Another strong contender is the Tarantula Hawk. This large wasp hunts spiders and delivers a quick but extremely painful sting. The pain is sudden and electric, but it usually fades within minutes. Even though it doesn’t last long, the intensity is shocking and overwhelming. Other Painful Stings Worth Noting Several other insects also cause severe pain, even if they don’t reach level 4. The Dasymutilla klugii, also known as a velvet ant, delivers a long-lasting sting that feels like burning oil on the skin. Some wasps, including aggressive species, can cause intense reactions that feel explosive and disorienting. Even common insects like honey wasps can produce sharp, spicy pain. While these are less severe, they still rank high on the pain scale. Why These Stings Hurt So Much The pain comes from venom designed to affect the nervous system. These chemicals trigger pain receptors and cause inflammation. In some cases, they also interfere with muscle control or nerve signals. Each species has evolved its own venom mix. That’s why the sensation varies so much. Some feel like burns, others like electric shocks, and some combine both. Final Thoughts The title of “most painful sting” often goes to the bullet ant. However, pain is subjective. Some people may find shorter, sharper stings more unbearable than long-lasting ones. What’s clear is that nature has developed some powerful defense systems. Whether it’s an ant, a wasp, or even a jellyfish, these creatures prove that size doesn’t always match strength. Most Painful Stings in the World: From Bullet Ants to Warrior Wasps

Tui Faces Legal Action After Hundreds of Britons Fall Ill in Cape Verde Mass Legal Claim Filed Against Tui Over 1,700 British holidaymakers have joined a growing legal case against travel company Tui after falling ill during trips to Cape Verde. Lawyers say the number continues to rise as more cases are reported, including people who became sick within the past few weeks. The law firm Irwin Mitchell is leading the claim. They report that multiple clients suffered serious gastric illnesses such as E coli, salmonella, shigella, and parasitic infections like cryptosporidium. These illnesses have affected people of all ages, including very young children. Reports of Deaths Raise Serious Concerns Legal representatives now believe at least eight British tourists have died after becoming ill on holiday in Cape Verde in recent years. One of the cases includes a 64 year old woman who fell sick shortly after staying at a luxury resort and passed away in hospital two days later. Family members of victims describe how quickly symptoms developed. In some cases, patients deteriorated rapidly, leaving families shocked and distressed. Health Warnings and Investigation UK health authorities have linked multiple cases of shigella and salmonella to travel in Cape Verde since late 2025. These infections can lead to severe stomach pain, fever, and diarrhoea. Authorities have also advised travellers to be cautious, following several reported outbreaks connected to hotels in the region. Investigations have pointed to possible hygiene concerns, including reports of undercooked food, poor sanitation, and unhygienic conditions in some locations. Tui Responds to Allegations Tui has stated that it is deeply saddened by the reports and continues to prioritise customer safety. The company says it is reviewing the situation but has not yet received the full official health report from Cape Verde authorities. The company also notes that it has sent over one million tourists to Cape Verde since 2022, and the situation is still under investigation. Hotel Response RIU Hotels and Resorts, one of the properties mentioned in reports, says it follows strict international hygiene and safety standards. The company claims its resorts are regularly inspected by external health and safety organisations. Legal Action May Reach Court Lawyers representing the affected travellers say they are pushing for compensation and accountability. If no agreement is reached, the case could move to the High Court, where damages may reach millions of pounds.

Artificial Intelligence is changing work faster than expected OpenAI shared policy ideas that suggest companies should prepare for an AI future in which complex tasks can be completed much faster. This shift, according to the company, will change how companies operate and people develop careers. This shows that in the near future, AI could handle tasks that humans currently take months to complete. It could change productivity, the way businesses are structured, and even how employees find meaning in their work. Four-Day Work Week Proposal The key idea is to encourage businesses to experiment with a four-day workweek without cutting pay. OpenAI thinks this will improve the well-being of workers while adapting them to an increased level of automation. The company also offers other benefits to employees. Included are higher contributions to retirement, improved healthcare, and child care subsidies. Job Shifting to Human-Centered Roles OpenAI suggests new growth opportunities in industries that depend on interaction with humans. Included are childcare, healthcare, and education. These sectors could become increasingly important as AI automates repetitive tasks. The shift in employment could compensate for the job losses that automation has caused. Worries about Job Replacement AI may replace a large number of jobs in a similar way to the Industrial Revolution. Experts, such as the Governor of the Bank of England have warned about the possibility of large-scale workforce changes. Not everyone is in agreement on the speed of this change. The impact of AI could take a while to be fully felt by some economists. The Long-Term Impact of Economic and Societal Changes Similar ideas have been proposed by other companies, researchers and even public wealth funds. The funds will allow the citizens of America to enjoy AI-driven economic growth. The experts also emphasize the importance of training workers to take on new roles, and improving infrastructure. Prepare for increased energy needs and computer requirements. AI: Different perspectives Some experts believe AI will have a major impact, while others think it may take time. Some experts believe that productivity gains may take many years, or even several decades to be fully realized. According to research, it took many years for past technological advances to have a significant impact on the economy. However, even then progress could slow after the initial gains.
