ISLAMABAD: Top executives at Pakistan’s loss-making public companies have blatantly abused the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Act 2023, which was mandated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to increase their salaries and benefits, costing the country billions of dollars.
Information is being gathered, according to informed government officials who spoke to The News after this publication recently reported on how the CEO of a regular SOE made millions of dollars by abusing the law.
The government has taken notice of the disclosure made in the publication’s report, which has led to a more thorough investigation into the wider abuse of the law by a number of state-run organizations.
