The nation has one of South East Asia's highest rates of civilian gun ownership. Roughly 40% of these firearms are thot to be unlawful. Politicians quickly called for a revision of the present gun rules in response to Friday's massacre. In response, Prime Minister Anutin promised to enact a new law governing guns. The public's ability to carry such weapons will be restricted under the proposed new legislation.Only government employes who are on duty will be permitted to carry firearms under the new rule, according to Anutin. He gave no details about the planned law, such as whether it would make gun ownership more stringent.

US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Sydney Childcare Worker Hamish Tait Named in Major Child Abuse Case A Sydney childcare worker accused of abusing more than 100 children across multiple daycare centres has been publicly identified after a court order preventing his name from being released was lifted. Hamish Tait, 35, is facing 329 serious charges linked to alleged offences involving 136 children across five childcare facilities in Sydney. Police say the alleged abuse took place over a 16 year period between 2009 and 2025. Police Reveal Details of Alleged Offences Tait was arrested in July last year and has remained in custody since then. His identity was kept private while authorities worked to identify possible victims and contact affected families. The charges against him include 162 counts related to producing child abuse material and 81 counts of secretly recording people during private activities without consent. Police also charged him with 22 counts of using children under the age of 14 to produce child abuse material and 18 counts of intentionally sexually touching children under 10. Australian Federal Police (AFP) Acting Commander Luke Needham described the allegations as extremely disturbing, especially because the accused person was working in a role that involved caring for children. Police Continue Victim Identification Process Authorities said they have contacted 121 families connected to the investigation. However, police are still working to identify 22 more possible victims. Investigators said Tait worked at or visited 62 early childhood education centres across Sydney during the investigation period. Most of his work was linked to Sydney’s north-west region. Police allege that the offences happened at five locations, including four childcare centres and a private business operated by Tait. Authorities have also created a support website for families connected to the affected childcare centres. Investigation Started After Online Activity Discovery Police first connected Tait to illegal online activity in June last year. During a search of a property in Glossodia, near Sydney, officers found suspected child abuse material on electronic devices. The discovery led to a wider investigation into his activities and his connections with childcare facilities across the city. Growing Concerns Over Child Safety in Daycare Centres The case has increased public concerns about child safety in childcare environments across Australia. In another major case, Ashley Paul Griffith admitted in 2024 to hundreds of offences involving children at childcare centres in Queensland and other countries over two decades. Authorities also investigated Joshua Dale Brown, who was charged with multiple child abuse offences linked to four childcare centres in Victoria. Police later advised health checks for more than 1,200 children who may have been affected. The investigation into Hamish Tait remains ongoing as police continue supporting affected families and identifying possible victims.
