Ghana Presses for Slavery Reparations In Historic UN Move Call for Justice and Compensation Ghana took a significant step by introducing a UN resolution calling for compensation in the case of the transatlantic slavery trade. In the proposal, member states are urged to submit formal apology letters and contribute to an international reparations fund. It focuses on long-term assistance and justice for victims. The initiative focuses on education, training and development funds, rather than payments directly to governments. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that his goal was not to gain personal benefit. The demand is centered on healing and fairness. Expected opposition and global support African Union (AU) and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have backed the proposal strongly. The African Union and the Caribbean Community see reparations in a similar light. Resistance is still likely. Many countries, including the United Kingdom, have rejected reparations repeatedly. Global Debate and Political Reactions John Dramani Mahama called the resolution historic. He claimed that it will help to preserve memories and prevent the erasure or history. Il criticised policies associated with Donald Trump and argued that certain actions could be seen as a downplaying of Black history. In the United States, recent moves have included restoring Confederate monuments and removing slavery-related displays. Mahama said that similar actions can influence governments and other institutions around the world.

Armed Israeli settlers destroyed homes in the village of Deir al Hatab near Nablus. Barhan Omar is a bank manager in the area. He described how local settlers shot at his home and set it ablaze. His children and he survived by hiding up on his roof. The attackers were large and organized. This made it even scarier. The attack resulted in at least 10 injuries. The majority of the victims were injured by stone, but one person was shot. Residents of the village said they had never seen such violence. Global Reaction and Political Pressure Bezalel Schmotrich, the Israeli finance minister has publicly supported expansion of settlements. He also called to end the concept of a Palestinian State. He has been criticized and sanctioned by countries such as the UK for his policies. Eyal Zaid, the Israeli chief of military, condemned violence and called it inacceptable. Local residents say security forces are often slow to react or fail to respond during an attack. The Fear of the Next New outposts of settlers are appearing near villages, and residents fear further attacks. Others feel unprotected and surrounded. Barhan Omar warns that increasing pressure could cause wider unrest. He stated that Palestinians would continue to defend both their lives and land despite growing threats.
