Pakistan’s climate hotspots are being absorbed. The risk of glacial lake outburst floods is increased by the burning glaciers in the north, of which 36% are on the verge of disappearing. Coastal regions in the south are gradually being reclaimed by rising waves.
A new reality in our climate is marked by the combined pressure of encroaching tides and melting ice. However, we practice the same discussions each year when the waters rise. Additionally, our memories fade as the floods do. One aspect of the climate catastrophe is forgetting.
Despite being a worldwide occurrence, climate-induced disasters are more conveniently referred to as “natural disasters.” However, that convenience is an act of erasure in and of itself. In Pakistan, floods are not natural occurrences.
