Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal regarding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned plan before the sale. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

The aircraft was carrying 52 passengers and six crew members. It had departed from Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport before arriving in Chicago without further problems.

Firework Hits Aircraft During Final Approach

The incident happened just minutes before landing as the Airbus A319 descended toward the runway. According to reports, the aircraft was flying at around 200 feet when the crew heard and felt a loud bang.

The pilots immediately informed air traffic controllers that a firework had likely hit the aircraft. They believed a firework mortar exploded beneath the plane, causing the impact during the final stage of the descent.

Even after the unexpected strike, the flight crew remained calm and continued the landing safely.

Air Traffic Controllers Had Already Issued a Warning

Before the aircraft reached the airport, air traffic controllers warned the pilots that people living near the approach path were setting off fireworks.

Controllers said they had received several similar reports throughout the evening. Local authorities had also been informed about the fireworks activity near the airport.

The warning highlighted the increased risk created by private fireworks during the nationwide Independence Day celebrations.

Safe Landing With No Injuries

After landing, the aircraft taxied normally to the terminal. Emergency crews inspected the plane as a precaution.

Delta Air Lines confirmed that no passengers or crew members suffered injuries. The airline also stated that maintenance teams carefully examined the aircraft after landing.

Officials later reported only minor paint damage, while inspectors found no structural damage that affected the aircraft’s safety.

Authorities Begin Investigation

Aviation officials have been notified about the incident and are reviewing what happened.

Police said the aircraft was struck by an unknown object, which resulted in minor exterior damage. Investigators will determine whether the object was directly linked to fireworks launched from nearby residential areas.

The event has renewed concerns about the dangers of setting off private fireworks close to airport flight paths.

Fireworks Celebrations Across the United States

Millions of Americans celebrated the country’s 250th Independence anniversary with fireworks displays across the nation.

Many cities organized large public events, while thousands of residents also launched fireworks from their homes. Although fireworks remain a popular tradition, this incident shows how they can create unexpected risks for aircraft operating near airports.

Authorities continue to remind the public to follow local safety rules and avoid using fireworks in areas that could endanger air traffic.

Conclusion

The Delta flight reached its destination safely despite being struck by a firework during landing. Quick action by the flight crew helped ensure the safety of everyone on board. Officials are now investigating the incident and reviewing safety measures to reduce similar risks during future holiday celebrations.

Previous Article Trump Expands Military and Border Patrol Recruitment at Colorado Rodeo Event Recruitment Drive Takes Center Stage at America's 250th Celebration The United States marked its 250th anniversary with more than just patriotic celebrations. A special rodeo event in Colorado Springs brought together military recruitment, law enforcement, and Western culture to encourage more Americans to serve their country. The event, called PBR Space Cowboys, attracted more than 30,000 visitors to the US Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium. Alongside thrilling bull riding competitions, military branches and federal agencies introduced career opportunities to thousands of attendees. Air Force, Space Force, and Border Patrol Recruit New Talent Before the rodeo began, 33 new Air Force recruits took their oath of service in front of spectators. Soon after, professional bull riders entered the arena, creating a powerful display of patriotism and American tradition. The US Space Force helped organize the event and welcomed visitors interested in careers related to national security and space operations. At the same time, the US Border Patrol set up recruitment booths in the fan zone to speak directly with potential applicants. Organizers believed the rodeo audience shared many of the same values required for public service, including responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and dedication. Border Patrol Expands Hiring Under Trump's Administration Border security remains one of President Donald Trump's major priorities. His administration has introduced several measures to increase the number of Border Patrol agents across the country. Last year, new legislation authorized the hiring of 3,000 additional Border Patrol agents. More recently, another funding package dedicated approximately $70 billion to border security for the remainder of Trump's term. Around $26 billion of that funding supports Border Patrol recruitment, training, and employee retention. As a result of these efforts, the agency recently announced that it now has more than 21,000 active agents, the highest number since its establishment in 1924. Rodeo Fans Learn About Career Opportunities Recruitment activities remained visible throughout the event. Border Patrol officers displayed vehicles, answered questions, and met with visitors while families enjoyed games, food, and live country music nearby. Many attendees stopped to explore career options. Some visitors had already considered military service, while others learned about Border Patrol opportunities for the first time. Eighteen year old Cody Price said he had explored joining the military but could not qualify because of asthma. After speaking with Border Patrol recruiters, he discovered the agency has different medical requirements, making it a possible career path for him. Price also acknowledged that Border Patrol continues to receive significant public attention because immigration remains one of the country's most debated political issues. Recruitment Strategy Targets New Audiences Holding recruitment campaigns at major public events allows military branches and federal agencies to connect with people who may never attend a traditional career fair. By combining entertainment with public service, officials hope to inspire a new generation of recruits while strengthening the nation's military and border security workforce. As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, events like PBR Space Cowboys demonstrate how government agencies are using creative outreach strategies to attract future service members and law enforcement officers.
