Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), has declared that the military’s position on the violent protests on May 9 is still the same: those responsible for the disturbances must be held accountable.
“The Army made its position on [May 9] quite plain at the press conference on May 7 [2024]. At the General Headquarters (GHQ) of Rawalpindi, he briefed the media on the state of national security. “There has been no change in that and there will be none,” he stated.
Following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9, riots broke out across the nation, but particularly in the garrison town. Charged mobs vandalized both public and private facilities, including military installations.
