ISLAMABAD The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued returning officers (ROs) the details of political party electoral emblems with less than a month to go before the general elections, The News reported on Wednesday.
Regarding this, the electoral commission has forwarded the list of election symbols of 145 political parties, together with a letter, as a top priority to the ROs of national and provincial assemblies.
In its letter, the ECP emphasizes that pertinent electoral emblems should only be given to candidates who have been nominated by political parties.
Returning authorities have been informed that no independent candidate should receive electoral emblems from political parties.
In addition, the ECP has provided returning officers a list of distinct election emblems for independent candidates, instructing them to refrain from assigning insignia to candidates not on the list.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is one of the more than a dozen political parties that isn’t listed among the election symbols since its famous “bat” emblem has been taken away from it because intra-party elections, which are required by law in order to be eligible for an election symbol, haven’t been held.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (the “tiger”), Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (the “arrow”), Pakistan Peoples Party (the “sword”), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriyati (the “batsman”) are among the parties that have received symbols.
Furthermore, the following groups have been assigned names: Sunni Ittehad Council “horse,” Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) “human eye,” Pakistan Muslim League (PML) “tractor,” Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) “kite,” Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P) “book,” Balochistan National Party (BNP) “axe,” Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) “scale,” Balochistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P) “turban,” Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) “eagle,” Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) “kite,”
