According to a health expert, cervical cancer is a completely avoidable disease that claims the lives of eight women in Pakistan each day.
“The burden of this disease is expected to triple over the next 70 years if effective measures are not taken,” Dr. Muneeba Ahsan Sayeed, who is affiliated with Dow University of Health Sciences, stated on Wednesday.
She stated that it usually takes 15 to 20 years, or even longer, for an HPV infection to progress into cervical cancer at a presentation held at the University of Karachi.
One woman worldwide passes away from this avoidable illness every two minutes, according to Dr. Sayeed. Sadly, 90% of these deaths take place in low- and middle-income nations, she continued.
