Following England’s announcement that he was no longer in their plans, England pacer Chris Woakes declared his retirement from international cricket.
After dislocating his shoulder in the field, Woakes walked out to bat one-handed with his arm in a sling during his final game against India at the Oval last month.
India leveled the series at 2-2 with a six-run victory without him seeing a ball.
At the age of 36, his injury essentially ended his England career by excluding him from contention for this winter’s Ashes tour to Australia.
Woakes is unlikely to play again, according to a statement made last week by Rob Key, managing director of men’s cricket for the England and Wales Cricket Board.
