Music star awarded rare state recognition
Congolese singer Fally Ipupa has expressed deep pride and emotion after receiving one of the highest national honours in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was named a knight of the National Order of the Leopard, a title reserved for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the nation.
A career built on Congolese rumba
Fally Ipupa began his music journey decades ago, working with major Congolese artists including Koffi Olomidé. He first gained recognition through group performances with Talent Latent and Quartier Latin International before building a strong solo career.
Global chart success and record-breaking shows
The singer is currently enjoying a strong international run. He recently became the first African artist to debut at number one on the French album charts with his latest project, titled “XX.”
Health strain from intense touring schedule
Ipupa has spoken about the pressure of his busy schedule across Europe and the United States. He recently revealed that he temporarily lost his voice after constant media appearances, and a doctor advised him to rest his voice for a week.
Tragedy and challenges in his career
Despite his success, his career has also seen difficult moments. In Kinshasa, a tragic crowd crush at one of his concerts four years ago led to at least 11 deaths when attendance exceeded stadium capacity.
He has also faced political controversies during different stages of his career.
Artist’s message to young people
After receiving the honour, Ipupa shared a message of encouragement with fans. He said the recognition reflects the wider Congolese community and not just his personal journey.
