SYDNEY: On the opening day of the third Test match against Australia on Wednesday, tenacious Pakistan recovered from an impending catastrophe to finish with 313 thanks to valiant half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, and Aamer Jamal.
After winning the toss and facing a dismal innings total of 96 for five, the tourists counterattacked to put the Australians on the ropes at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
After a disastrous start to the batting, Rizwan struck 88 off 103 balls, Jamal, at number nine, made a strong 82 off 97, and Salman struck 53 off 67 to offer the tourists some hope.
Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, got five wickets for 61 in the series, his third consecutive five-wicket haul.
