ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi called a “cosmetic” full court meeting today, but four Supreme Court judges declined to attend, voicing concerns about the procedure for examining and approving the SC Rules, 2025.
The differences within the judiciary were highlighted in the joint letter sent by senior puisne judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Ayesha Malik, and Justice Athar Minallah.
They pointed out that the regulations were approved through circulation rather than being presented to a full court for consideration and approval, and they claimed that the procedure used to adopt them was not legally acceptable.
The letter went on to say that it was “puzzling” why a full court meeting was being called at this point as the rules had previously been notified on August 9.
