Fulton County Challenges FBI Over Election Records
Fulton County, Georgia, will file a lawsuit after the FBI searched its election hub and seized records linked to the 2020 election. County Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr. said the county will challenge the warrant in the Northern District of Georgia.
Arrington said the county wants to stop the government from keeping the ballots and protect voter information. He requested that all documents stay sealed within Georgia.
FBI Executes Search at Election Hub
FBI agents searched the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center in Union City on January 28. State officials opened the center in 2023 to simplify election processes. The warrant allowed the FBI to take ballots, voting rolls, and other election-related records from 2020.
Fulton County includes Atlanta and drew attention after voter fraud complaints following the 2020 election. Courts later dismissed those claims.
County Pushes Back Against DOJ
In December 2025, the Department of Justice sued Fulton County to access the 2020 ballots. The county rejected the lawsuit, saying the DOJ offered no valid reason for taking the records.
Arrington raised concerns about missing records, saying, “We cannot verify that we’ve received everything back because no inventory was taken during the seizure.”
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stressed the administration’s focus on election integrity but did not discuss the investigation in detail.
Political Context and Reactions
Former President Donald Trump confirmed that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard observed the FBI search for election security purposes.
Trump and others faced indictment in 2023 for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election. The case never went to trial after the local district attorney was disqualified.
FBI Director Kash Patel defended the bureau. He said investigators followed facts and law and acted on probable cause.
