After the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted relief to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a cipher case, a federal government spokesperson on legal affairs stated on Monday that the courts ought to be “mindful” of national security when making decisions on sensitive cases.
The federal government’s legal affairs spokesperson, Barrister Aqeel Malik, made this statement at a press conference in Islamabad shortly after the PTI leaders were found not guilty by the IHC in the cipher case.
The IHC overturned Imran and Qureshi’s conviction in the notorious cipher case, which involved accusations of abusing and misplacing the confidential diplomatic document—a significant relief to the beleaguered former ruling party.
