ISLAMABAD According to The News, hundreds of government officials and bureaucrats embezzled money meant for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) recipients, which was reported to a subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday.
The panel ordered that the involved officials, who were in grades 17 through 22, be charged with crimes.
The subcommittee, which was chaired by Moin Amir Pirzada, convened to examine audit complaints pertaining to Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, the BISP, and the Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division. Members were informed that BISP funds had been illegally collected by government workers, pensioners, and even their wives.
