IBM Empowers Saudi Digital Talent
IBM marked major milestones in Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation this year. The company focused on workforce development, AI innovation, and regional technology growth. These efforts support Vision 2030, which aims to build a knowledge-driven, technologically advanced economy.
At IBM Think on Tour 2025 in Riyadh, IBM announced that it had trained over 500,000 Saudi nationals through its SkillsBuild program. The initiative focuses on AI, cloud, and data skills. This exceeded the target by half a million learners. The achievement came through collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
Fahad Alanazi, IBM Saudi Arabia’s general manager, said the milestone shows the ambition of Saudi youth and the value of public-private partnerships.
IBM partnered with King Saud University, Princess Nourah University, the National eLearning Center, the Saudi Data and AI Authority, and the SAMAI initiative. The programs expand digital opportunities for women and introduce high-school students to AI. Additionally, IBM and the National Institute for Educational Professional Development trained more than 2,000 teachers in AI and computer science.
Expanding IBM’s Regional Presence
IBM Consulting launched operations in the Al-Baha region, opening a Center of Excellence to nurture consulting and technology talent. The branch connects academic learning with practical skills and prepares students for careers in Saudi Arabia’s digital ecosystem.
Al-Baha University joined the 2025 IBM Impact Accelerator program to co-develop CH-MARL (Constrained Hierarchical Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning). This AI framework uses IBM WatsonX.ai and IBM Cloud to optimize logistics, reduce idle time, lower emissions, and improve efficiency in regional hubs.
Khaled AlOfaysan, country manager of IBM Consulting Saudi Arabia, said the Al-Baha branch will strengthen digital infrastructure and train the next generation of consulting leaders.
Launching the World’s First AI-Native Airline
IBM and Riyadh Air launched the world’s first AI-native airline, built without legacy IT systems. Unveiled at IBM Think Riyadh 2025, the airline uses AI to improve guest experiences, employee enablement, and operational intelligence.
IBM Consulting Advantage integrates 59 workstreams and over 60 global partners, including Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, and FLYR. AI tools support crew decision-making, personalize digital workplaces, and enhance customer care.
An enterprise performance management system consolidates financial, commercial, and operational data. This improves route profitability, strengthens planning, and boosts efficiency. Riyadh Air plans to start its first commercial routes in early 2026.
Conclusion
IBM’s work in Saudi Arabia demonstrates a comprehensive approach to digital transformation. By training 500,000 learners, launching AI-driven aviation solutions, and expanding consulting hubs, IBM strengthens Vision 2030. These initiatives build a knowledge-based economy and equip Saudi talent to compete globally.
