Iran has strongly rejected recent US claims that it attempted to assassinate Israel’s ambassador in Mexico, calling the accusations “absurd and ridiculous.”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated during a press briefing that the allegations were an attempt to damage Iran’s diplomatic ties with other nations. He insisted, “The entire matter was fabricated.”
The US had alleged that Iran’s Quds Force orchestrated the plot in late 2024, recruiting operatives through its embassy in Venezuela. Israel thanked Mexican authorities for allegedly thwarting the operation. However, Mexico later clarified it had “received no information” about such a plot, and Iran’s embassy in Mexico called the claims “a great big lie.”
The accusation comes months after Israel’s unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran in June, which led to a 12-day conflict. A ceasefire has been in place since June 24.
