RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army and the Punjab Police have decided to work together to investigate the incident after brief video recordings of several masked men dressed in military uniforms beating police officers in Bahawalnagar went viral on social media, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to a statement from the military’s media wing, an unpleasant situation happened recently in Bahawalnagar, but it was quickly handled and resolved by the military and police working together.
The statement said, “In spite of this, some groups with personal agendas began spreading hateful propaganda on social media to foment discord among government agencies and state institutions.”
“To guarantee an impartial and thoughtful investigation, as well as to identify and assign blame for legal infractions and abuses of power, a collaborative investigation including law enforcement and security personnel will be conducted for ascertaining the facts and apportioning responsibility,” it concluded.
A string of videos went viral which purportedly showed men in army uniforms beating up police personnel in Bahawalnagar, which drew criticism from different segments of social media.
